The Meaning of

家 (Jiā) — Home, Family. The top radical 宀 is a roof. The bottom component 豕 is a pig. To the ancient Chinese, a home was a roof over your head and food on the table. This character has carried that meaning unchanged for over three millennia. It is the most important thing in Chinese culture — everything begins with family.

How This Piece Was Created

This piece uses Han Dynasty clerical script, a style originally carved into stone steles 2,000 years ago. The horizontal strokes are heavy, like the beams of a house. The vertical strokes are firm, like pillars. Creating it took 2 hours of measured, deliberate brushwork — each stroke placed with intention.
