Yantai, China
Two Artists. One Studio.
Forty Years of Brushwork.
In a quiet studio near the Yellow Sea, a husband and wife have spent their lives mastering arts that go back thousands of years. This is their story.
The Calligrapher
Master Du
Painter — Landscapes, Flowers & Birds
Master Du began painting at age 8, taught by his mother in the tradition of Chinese bird-and-flower painting. For four decades, he has captured the beauty of nature — a peony opening at dawn, mist rising from the Yellow Sea, mountains dissolving into clouds. He paints from life, spending mornings in his garden before bringing what he sees to the studio.
Specialty: Bird-and-Flower Painting (花鸟画) & Landscape (山水)
The Painter
Madame Li
Calligrapher — 40 Years of Brushwork
Born in Shandong province, Madame Li began practicing calligraphy at age 12 under her grandfather, a scholar of classical Chinese literature. For four decades, she has dedicated herself to the art of the brush — grinding ink by hand each morning, studying the masters of the Tang and Song dynasties, and developing her own flowing, elegant style that balances precision with expressive freedom.
Specialty: Running Script (行书) & Cursive Script (草书)
The Studio
Our studio sits in Yantai, a coastal city in Shandong province. The sea air keeps the paper at the perfect humidity. In the mornings, you can hear the seagulls. Every day begins the same way — grinding ink on a stone that belonged to a grandfather. The brushes hang on the wall in order of age. The oldest one has painted more than a thousand works. When you commission a piece from us, it is created here — in this room, with these hands, in this silence.
